About GFSA

Welcome to the GFSA Blog!  Growing Food Security in Alberta (GFSA)  values community and believes that relationship building is core to all successful community endeavors. To that end, GFSA has worked directly with 12 rural Alberta communities sharing the Community Building for Food Security workshop and encouraging  asset-based community building approaches to food security and food sovereignty challenges.

GFSA is a provincial food security network.  Our vision is simply, all children and families in Alberta have healthy food.  GFSA strives to achieve this vision in many ways including: an active listserv; an informative and current web site; Community Building for Food Security workshops; partnering with the Food: Today, Tomorrow, Together conferences in Alberta; being represented on the Steering Commitee of Food Secure Canada and assisting with the national initiative, the People’s Food Policy Project.

This blog is a vehicle for sharing stories, ideas, opportunities, reflections, links and resources.  Through our work with Alberta citizens and communities, GFSA has come to recognize and value the many varied and unique experiences we all have with food.  We are each on our own personal food  journey, and we want to embrace and celebrate that journey.  We would like to share and celebrate personal stories of  people, groups, and communities that are connected to GFSA.   Wherever you are on your personal food journey, we hope you will feel comfortable sharing and contributing to this blog.  By sharing our stories, we  can  encourage one another to grow in whatever way is meaningful to us.  Your input, stories and ideas are welcomed!
